NP Roundtable Statement on Department of Education Ruling

National nurse practitioner organizations are raising serious concerns about the Department of Education’s final rule on federal loan limits, which excludes NP programs from the professional degree definition. Despite acknowledging that nurse practitioners are a distinct profession and that post‑baccalaureate nursing meets statutory criteria, the Department’s decision ignores overwhelming evidence‑based input and bipartisan Congressional support. NONPF and its partners thank the NPs, faculty, and advocates who made their voices heard and remain committed to correcting this decision to protect NP education and access to care.

Click the link below to read the full Roundtable statement.

View Full Statement Here

Celebrating an Important Contribution to our Profession!

Congratulations to the authors of this noteworthy work for highlighting the key facilitators that make income‑generating DNP‑NP programs not only possible but also successful.

Their work underscores the power of strong administrative support, collaborative engagement among faculty and clinical partners, integrated and innovative curricular delivery, and thoughtful, staged transitions from MSN‑NP programs. Research like this strengthens the pathway for the MNS NP program's transition to DNP-NP programs and reinforces the value of strategic, well‑designed educational models. A meaningful step forward for advanced practice nursing.
