The NONPF Special Topics Conference, Readiness to Practice:  Defining Performance Management, returns to the Crystal Gateway Marriott on November 18-19, 2016.

Quality practice outcomes and high patient satisfaction are tangible evidence of nurse practitioner (NP) practice performance.  Since 1975, NP educational programs have been preparing new graduates to assume a key role in health care delivery.  As this role has evolved to match the complexity of healthcare, so too has the educational program evolved in content.  As a profession, we have defined and regularly updated the competencies for entry to practice; however, the distinctive markers of readiness for practice have remained more elusive.  As the demands in practice increase and the faculty pool turns over, NP education needs a universal framework for assessing student performance.   The NONPF 2016 Special Topics Conference will bring NP educators together for the purpose of identifying the common progress indicators.  Linked to the NP competencies, these progress indicators will offer faculty guidance on assessing the NP student’s readiness for practice, both within the educational program and upon graduation.  In keeping with the format of this conference in past years, the 2016 Special Topics Conference will be highly interactive.  Participants will engage in work sessions to define progress indicators tied to core and population-focused competencies.
