NONPF Special Topics Conference
Readiness for Practice: Defining Progress Indicators
November 17-19, 2016
The Special Topics Conference is specifically designed for substantive participation to address the challenges that are facing nurse practitioner (NP) education. It is an opportunity to make your voice heard and share innovative ideas to address those challenges.
A critical issue of today is assessment of “readiness to practice”. As a profession, we have defined and regularly updated the competencies for entry to practice; however, the distinctive markers of readiness for practice have remained more elusive.
The NONPF 2016 Special Topics Conference will bring NP educators together for the purpose of review and validation of progress indicators. The indicators that will be presented have been developed by an NONPF workgroup as an outcome of the last Special Topics conference. Linked to the NP competencies, the intent is for these progress indicators to offer faculty guidance on assessing the NP student’s readiness for practice, both within the educational program and upon graduation. The keynote speaker is Carol Aschenbrener MD who has been a leader in health professions education and has done vital work on competency-based learning and inter-professional education.
