Sharon McGuire, OP, PhD, RN-C Assistant Professor Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science University of San Diego My background includes general responsibility
for the development of curriculum in accordance with NONPF domains, and of
clinical sites/preceptors in a new Family Nurse Practitioner program geared
toward health care with an underserved, Hispanic/Latino population on the
U.S. Mexico border (1994-1998). As coordinator of the FNP option, my work
included teaching, structuring the criteria for performance, assignments,
substantial input into the creation of a Web based clinical log data-base,
and other administrative aspects of a nurse practitioner program. Participation
in a state wide NP faculty group that met periodically to address issues in
advanced practice education nurtured my own sense of collegiality with other
faculty and program administrators. I believe my strength would be in assisting
new programs that need the nuts and bolts of curriculum development and programming
that are responsive to regional health problems and that incorporate the
NONPF domains. Both my personal and clinical background includes extensive
experience in working successfully with culturally diverse ethnic groups,
especially Hispanics/Latinos. When I relocated to another state to complete
doctoral studies I served in a consultant role to the new director of the
program in her transition. I am currently on faculty at the University of
San Diego, teach the health assessment and advanced health assessment courses,
and am developing a Web based advance health assessment course.
