Marie Ann Marino, EdD, RN, PNP
State University of New York at Stony Brook

Dr. Marino is a Clinical Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Nursing.  She joined the faculty in 1990 and is currently Director of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program.  One of her first roles as Director was to assist in the response to the growing need for pediatric nurse practitioners and support the School's mission to educate a diverse and geographically dispersed student base by reformatting the curriculum for a computer-mediated distance education delivery platform.  The first cohort of distance students was admitted to the program in 1998. In August 2001, the program successfully completed the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses (NCBPNP/N's) Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program Review and was awarded an extended five-year program recognition.  Preparation of the application for this review has enhanced her appreciation for the necessity of rigor in review of educational standards for nurse practitioner programs at the graduate level.

Currently, Dr. Marino is writing curriculum for the School's new Master of Science in Nursing Education Program.  The mission of this program is to prepare nurses and advanced practice nurses as educators and leaders in both the academic and clinical settings.  She is also Co-chair of the Curriculum Committee at the School of Nursing and was integrally involved in the reaccredidation of the School's program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education in February 2002.

Dr. Marino's educational preparation includes a Master of Science in Child Health from The State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Nursing, a Doctorate in Nursing Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Post-Doctorate in Family Violence from Harvard Medical School/Children's Hospital.  A practicing pediatric nurse practitioner for thirteen years, her clinical expertise is in the area of the forensic medical evaluation of child abuse but she has maintained a practice as a nurse practitioner in the primary and acute care of children.  Dr. Marino's most recent research is in the field of children's exposure to violence.
