NP Enrollment and Graduation Data
The 2012-2013 NP enrollment and graduation data collected jointly by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) show an 8% increase in NP completions (Master's level and Post-Master's level) and more than doubling of post--baccalaureate DNP NP graduates over the previous year. This translates to a combined total of 14,229 NP completions/graduates in all categories. DNP Competency Toolkit
The NONPF Curricular Leadership Committee has updated the "DNP NP Toolkit: Process and Approach to DNP Competency Based Evaluation." Drs. Andrea Wolf and Thomasine Guberski, co-chairs of the Curricular Leadership Committee, built on the earlier work developed under the leadership of Dr. Carla DIeter to update this valuable resource based on the current NP core competencies (2012). The toolkit discusses competency-based education and evaluation and the competencies for NPs. The Faculty/Program Resources section provides article citations, exemplar course materials, and other tools linked to each of the current competency areas for DNP NP students. Attendees of the DNP Town Hall Session at the NONPF 39th Annual Meeting voted to make this resource available to the public.

New Acute Care and Primary Care Statement
A multi-organizational work group has developed a statement for employers of acute care and primary care nurse practitioners. The statement supplements the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation and offers additional clarification for the employer.
NONPF Statement on Acute Care and Primary Care NP Practice
NONPF developed in 2011 the Statement on Acute Care and Primary Care NP Practice to provide the NP educator perspective on the distinctions and overlap of practice by acute care and primary care CNPs. NONPF has released in June 2012 a new, edited version of the statement. The 2008 Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, and Education has generated questions about scope of practice for the acute care and primary care CNPs. This statement seeks to advance patient safety by delineating issues and offering clarity.

IOM Paper on Team-Based Care
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released the October 2012 paper, "Core Principles and Values of Effective Team-Based Health Care." A multidisciplinary group headed by Dr. Pamela Mitchell, former president of the American Academy of Nursing, authored this discussion paper that presents basic principles and personal values that characterize interprofessional team-based care and outlines four themes to guide the growth of team-based health care delivery. The authors were individual participants from the IOM's Best Practices Innovation Collaborative.
New Edition of Evaluation Criteria
The National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education (NTF) has released the 4th edition of the Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs. This document in its entirety, including sample forms and other appendices, is available online.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on July 30 the selection of 5 sites to participate in the Graduate Nursing Education (GNE) Demonstration to support the clinical training of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNS). The five awardees are Duke University Hospital, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center Hospital, Rush University Medical Center, and Scottsdale Healthcare Medical Center.
CMS will provide reimbursement to the five hospitals for the reasonable cost of clinical preparation of additional APRN students receiving training as a result of the GNE Demonstration. These hospitals must partner with accredited schools of nursing and non-hospital community-based care settings. Payment will be calculated on a per-student basis, comparing previous enrollment levels in APRN training programs with enrollment under the demonstration.

Adult-Gero NP Competencies
The identification of the Adult-Gerontological Acute Care NP Competencies and Adult-Gerontological Primary Care NP Competencies is now complete. NONPF participated in a collaboration with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to identify both sets of competencies.. The primary care competencies were released in June 2010, and the final report on the acute care competencies was released in early 2012. AACN and NONPF felt it important to complete this work to provide NP educational programs with guidance in program development for the combining of the adult and gerontological foci into adult-gerontological NP programs for congruence with the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, and Accreditation (2008). The Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Competencies are specific to the primary care focus, whereas the Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Competencies are for the acute care focus.
Updated Core Competencies
NONPF has released the most current version of the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies (2012). The NP core competencies underwent significant revision in 2011, and a few minor additions have been made as a result of the work of the identification and validation of the population-focused competencies in 2011-2012. These competencies still reflect an updating and integration of previous sets of Master's level and DNP competencies for the nurse practitioner into a single set of core competencies for the nurse practitioner entry into practice upon graduation.
