Marilyn Frank-Stromborg, EdD, JD, FAAN
Chair and Presidential Research Professor Northern Illinois University I have served as the Chair of a School
of Nursing located in a semi-rural area in northern Illinois for the past
8 years. We have between 400 and 500 students and offer baccalaureate, RN
completion, master's and post-master's programs. The school has a nurse
managed clinic (TriCounty Community Health Center) that has been existence
7 years and provides the only health care for the working poor for three
counties. Over 12,000 unduplicated visits have occurred since the clinic
has opened. TriCounty is open throughout the year. Students from our baccalaureate
program and nursing students from an associate degree program have clinical
experiences at TriCounty as well as graduate and Post-Master's practitioner
students. An endowment of over 2 million dollars has been established to
provide ongoing financial support for the clinic. For the past 7 years,
I have been actively involved in raising funds for this endowment and writing
supporting grants for the clinic.
My curriculum experience includes designing and implementing an oncology clinical specialist program in the 1980's, designing and implementing a post-master's Family Nurse Pracitioner graduate certificate course in the mid-1990's, and assisting the faculty in designing and implementing a new graduate curriculum to prepare adult nurse practitioners, family nurse practitioners, and adult clinical specialists. I have taught oncology clinical specialist related courses for years including advanced physical assessment, the oncology clinical theory courses and the oncology internships. In the advanced practice curriculum I teach the role course. I have taught the role course face-to-face, using Distance Technology, and as an on-line course I put on the internet using Blackboard. The School of Nursing has used Distance Technology for many years and has implemented on-line courses within the last several years. Other experiences that might provide help to schools is my experience as an evaluator for CCNE, practicing as an adult nurse practitioner for over 25 years, and an extensive background conducting community based research studies in primary prevention/early detection in a semi-rural setting. Other skills I bring to the role of consultant is a strong legal background as a lawyer and serving on the state Board of Nursing. (picture coming soon) |
