  • Arlington National Cemetery - Arlington National Cemetery, our nation's most treasured burial ground, is home to more than 285,000 honored dead.   • The Frederick Douglas National Historic Site - The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site preserves the last residence of Frederick Douglass (1818 -1895), one of the most prominent African-American leaders of the 19th century.
  • The Newseum - offers visitors an experience that blends five centuries of news history with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits.
  • The United Stated Holocaust Memorial Museum - A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, promote human dignity, and prevent genocide.

 

For Nature Lovers

  • The National Zoo - just a few blocks from the Omni Shoreham, the National Zoo is a treat for all ages!
  • Rock Creek Park - Rock Creek Park, one of the largest (and longest) areas of green in Washington, DC is right behind the Omni.  You can literally step out of the hotel, walk down the hill and start your jog or early morning stroll.
  • US National Arboretum - The National Arboretum is a 446-acre living museum 2 miles from the Capitol: gardens, collections, bonsai museum, herb garden, azaleas, flowering cherry trees, and the original columns from the Capitol.

 

For Theater Lovers

  • The Kennedy Center - The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage features free music every day.  Head there by 6pm and you can catch everything from the National Symphony Orchestra to local folk acts.  Please check the Kennedy Center's web-site for details.
  • The Shakespeare Theatre Company - Since its founding in 1985, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has endeavored to be the nation’s leading force in the presentation and preservation of classic theatre
  • The Wooly Mammoth Theater Company - The Wooly Mammoth Theater, opened in 1980, was part of the first wave of theaters to forge the future of the art form rather than just preserving its past.                                                                            

For Family Fun

  • Discovery Theater - Discovery Theater is the Smithsonian's kid-friendly stage.  Shows range from tap dance performances to puppet show workshops, and tickets are always under $10.
  • International Spy Museum - Learn about the authentic tradecraft that has been used throughout time and around the world. Hear spies, in their own words, describe the challenges and the "game" of spying.
  • Washington National Cathedral - Children will enjoy the magnificent design of the Washington National Cathedral, which introduces kids to its magnificent gargoyles through regularly-scheduled tours.
