NONPF Leadership Mentoring Program
2016 - 2017 Call for Applications
The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (“NONPF”) will support a third cohort of the NONPF Leadership Mentoring Program for the period of November 2016 to November 2017. This one-year initiative, developed in 2014 by Dr. Deborah Barksdale, aims to provide a small cohort of new and emerging leaders in NP education with an opportunity for leadership development and mentoring. Each participant will receive leadership development, mentoring from successful nurse leaders, and peer support.
The program will be overseen by Dr. Ellen Dawson and Dr. Kenya Beard. NONPF and the program leads will select a cohort of up to 8 NP faculty members to participate in the Leadership Mentoring Program. Interested faculty members are encouraged to apply to the 2016-17 program before September 15, 2016. The participants will examine critical issues that challenge leaders and engage in discussions that include:
- Serving on Boards
- Writing for publications
- Policy advocacy
- Evaluating NP programs
- Innovation and excellence
- Leading with emotional intelligence
- Coaching teams towards excellence
- Leadership strengths assessment
The program will include 4 phases, beginning with an orientation session at the November 2016 Special Topics Conference. The phases will include group meetings, presentations, individual mentor pairings, and web-based programming.
See the full program description for more details about the phases.
Program Costs and Benefits
Participants (or their home institutions) will cover hotel and transportation expenses for participation in the NONPF 2016 Special Topics Conference (Nov. 17-19), a 2-day program meeting in Washington, DC in summer 2017, the NONPF 43rd Annual Meeting (April 19-23) in Washington, DC, and the NONPF 2017 Special Topics Conference in fall 2017.
NONPF will provide complimentary meeting registration for participants to the above-mentioned conferences. Should certain pre-conferences or additional registration sessions apply to leadership development, NONPF will also provide complimentary registration for participants to those sessions during the term of the program. NONPF will also provide publications and other leadership development resources to participants at no cost to participants. All meeting, webinar, and other program costs will be covered by NONPF.
An applicant must be a NP currently teaching in a NP program, either as a full or part-time faculty member. The applicant should have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a NP program and should maintain national certification as a NP.
